VIRGINIA K. FREYERMUTH
Gifts for the Heart: Seeing, Touching, Transforming

     Dr. Virginia Freyermuth spoke in a heart-warming way about her recent visit to Barrow, Alaska.

   

   Dr. Virginia Freyermuth is a lifelong artist, art teacher, and arts advocate. She holds Bachelor of Fine Arts and
   Master of Fine Arts degrees from Boston University and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration
   in Art Education from The Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Dr. Freyermuth is a former
   Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, a recipient of the National Outstanding Art Teacher Award of Walt Disney’s
   American Teacher Awards, and a Founding Fellow of the Teacher Leadership Academy of Massachusetts. She is
   a Master Teacher of the Connecting Oceans Academy of the ECHO Project, Education Through Cultural and
   Historical Organizations, a federally mandated educational and cultural enrichment initiative in the South Coast
   area of Massachusetts.

   Dr. Freyermuth co-authored a series of articles based on ongoing research titled The Wonder Full Teacher 
    Project, published in SchoolArts Magazine, 2004-2005, with colleague Dr. Peter London. This research
   explores the dimensions of transformative, holistic teaching. She is the Director of Cranberry Barn Studios in
   Carver, MA which promotes personal and professional growth and learning through the arts and education. Dr.
   Freyermuth has taught all grade levels including pre-school, elementary, middle school, high school, college, and
   adult over her 30 years as an educator. She maintains a personal studio where she actively pursues drawing,
   painting, writing and photography. She has given over 170 presentations and keynote addresses nationally and
   locally on art and education.
